US-based business man and chief executive officer (CEO) of Onwubiko International Sports Academy, Hon Innocent Onwubiko has explained the reason for adopting Lion as the symbol of the club.
He made the disclosure in his country home when he adopted a young cob called U-Roy from the Imo Zoological garden, Nekede. The young lion was adopted as a member of the family and later handed over to the Zoo for its upkeep.
It should be recalled that Umuogbe Village (aka) Umuogbe Agu in Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo state, noted for her historical relationship with lion-the king of the forest, tradition has it that lion is sacred to Umuogbe.
It is believed that lion do not attack Umuogbe blood and Umuogbe people do not attack it or hunt it or eat it. It was exciting as the management of the zoo led by Mr Abioye the state Chief Zoo officer brought the young U-ROY to visit his adopted home.
It turned out a huge tourist attraction for young kids of the community and the family of Onwubiko who trooped out to have a glance of the August visitor, who came visiting from Imo zoo.
The lion behaved in a way to prove that old belief of friendship with the people and played with kids and adults of the village before going back to the zoo in Owerri.
