Tottenham have reportedly settled on Alex Meret as their target to replace Hugo Lloris, with the Napoli goalkeeper originally identified by Antonio Conte as an option.
According to NapoliCalcioLive, the 26-year-old Italian is set to become Spurs’ first-choice pick to replace their club captain in the long-term, with Lloris set to finally be replaced between the sticks at Tottenham after over a decade of service in north London.
La Repubblica have previously reported on Tottenham’s interest in Meret, with Napoli open to selling the keeper for €30m (£26m) this summer even with the shot-stopper playing a huge role in Luciano Spalletti’s side sitting 16 points clear at the top of Serie A.
As per La Repubblica, Tottenham could soon have to thank Conte for pointing out Meret as an option should Spurs end up signing the goalkeeper, who could be the perfect long-term solution to replace Lloris as their starting shot-stopper.
Indeed, at 26, Meret is far from his peak despite enjoying an incredible year with Napoli, and for Tottenham, the Italian has all the qualities to become an exceptional replacement for Lloris, a task that many Spurs supporters have been fearing for the past few months.
Yet with Tottenham now deciding on Meret as their first-choice target, plans can now be put into place to bring the Italian to north London, with the Napoli star a perfect option to take over Lloris’ place in the starting XI for many years to come.
