The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State branch at the weekend honoured Engr Ronnis Eronnini in recognition of his role in sports development.
In the event which took place at the Concorde Hotel Owerri, at the weekend SWAN decorated him as a patron of the association and certificate of recognition.
In presenting the awards, the chairman of the group Rotn Everest Ezihe recounted his efforts at growing sports in the state which he claimed earned him the award.
The occasion was also used by friends and colleagues of the oil engineer to felicitate with him after 35 years of glorious and meritorious service in the Agip Oil Company where he first put in 3 years as an intern before engagement in 1986.
Ronnis who hails from the popular royal family of Eronini in Mbieri was reported to have played numerous philanthropic roles in the lives of many needy which he also affirmed. “I have trained 53 graduates”, he disclosed
In a citation read on his behalf and various other testimonies Eronini was reputed to have played significant roles in the Rotary Club which he served for 30 years where he served as Past Assistant Gov. District 911 twice. He held for 20 years the Rotary Charter and became a Paul Harris Fellow and attended 27 International conferences
Erononi is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN), Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), cut his engineering education teeth at the then Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTEC).
In his response, Eronini advised the audience to leave goodwill in everything they do and learn to take care of other people’s problem.
Talking about himself he disclosed that notwithstanding that he came from a royal family he grappled with difficulties as well adding that he adopted silence instead of telling lies.
“I am a bit fearless and associates with people of goodness. I tell you things as they are. Instead of telling lies, I keep quiet”, he stated.
