The revival of boxing in Imo State took a turn for the better when the Special Adviser to the State governor on Sports Hon. Ikenna Nlemigbo visited the Akabo Abazu Boxing Academy in Ikeduru local government area of the state.
The academy which hopes to produce boxers to take over from the likes of late Eddie Ndukwu and Dick Tiger Ihetu who made the state and Nigeria proud in the 60/70’s afforded the special adviser the opportunity to see for himself the skills of the youthful boxers on display.

Hon. Ikenna assured the proprietor of the academy and former state boxing coach Mr. Vitalis Njiribeako that he will mobilize his colleagues and other well-meaning Imolites and Nigerians to ensure that some of the needs of the academy are taken care of.
Speaking to the media after the visit he expressed satisfaction with the effort Coach Vitalis Njiribeako has made without any form of support. He promised the 3R government of Senator Hope Uzodimma will ensure that myriads of boxing talents in the state are discovered.
This he stated will help in taking lager number of youths off the street.
