Deputy Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, has commended the players, officials and management of Heartland Football Club Owerri, for putting up impressive performance in their week eleven league game of the NPFL against Sunshine Stars in Akure, Ondo state.
The DSP who was present at the match venue to support the team said that he saw the determination and the zeal to win and make the State proud despite the antics employed by the home team to win at all cost.
He said that despite that, the Naze Millionaires stood their ground and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. He urged the people of the state to keep praying for the team as the state government has embarked on steps towards repositioning the team.
Iwuanyawu said the state Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma has mandated the Ifeanyi Chukudi led management and coaches to ensure that Heartland returns back to its glorious days when the brand was a house hold name in the country.
The House Committee chairman on sports said that there are some things he has been able to do in his capacity especially in the remodeling of the Dan Anyiam Stadium in a record time.
He cited that internationa best practices was adopted in re-roofing the gymnasium building at the stadium and ensuring that Dan Anyiam and Okigwe stadia were ready for the current football season which were impossible in the past.
The Nwangele representative said the state government’s investment in sports development is beginning to grow fruit in some other aspects of sports in the state, and urged the team to go all out to defeat Dakkada FC on Wednesday in week 12 encounter of the game in Owerri.
