Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, have shifted their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup, after surviving a playoff tie against a yet to be determined team scheduled for February.
The club is yet to recover from the shock of their sudden elimination from the CAF Champions League after they were edged out by Al Merrikh on aggregate score.
Victor Mbaoma scored a brace but Enyimba failed to advance after their 2-1 win in the first round of the Champions League, but it fell short of what the Nigerian representatives required to step into the group phase of the competition.
Having lost the first leg to Saifeldin Malik’s hattrick a fortnight prior, The People’s Elephant needed to be at their best to overcome a three-goal deficit, but Malik again proved to be the spoiler as his seventh-minute strike put Enyimba on a very tight rope.
Former skipper of the club, Obinna Nwaneri had earlier raised alarm over their poor outing as he urged the club to restrategise and look for result-oriented players to beef-up the team.
