The caretaker committee of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Imo State chapter, led by Barr. Comr. Ezinwanne Chimuanya Udoka, has called on police, DSS and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute some members of the council who parade themselves as National President and Imo State Chairman of NYCN who the group alleged sponsor and incite violence in the state and the nation at large in a bid to grab power.
The council has also called on the public to ignore and disregard antics and activities of this factional group in order not to be misguided.
The group in a letter signed by the Imo State chapter Chairman of NYCN, Barr. Comr. Ezinwanne Chimuanya Udoka and made available to newsmen last week in Owerri, stated that it is on record that the caretaker committee of NYCN, Imo State, was set up by the state management committee, ratified by extra elective congress held in Calabar, Cross River State, on 19th to 22nd September 2021, which returned Sukubo as National President of NYCN to harmonize and ensure peace between the former factional presidents.
The council noted that NYCN caretaker committee in Imo State led by Udoka was officially inaugurated on 29-10-2021 by NYCN National Executive Council, in Owerri, with the representative of Imo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in attendance, as well as DSS and police.
The caretaker committee chairman stressed that “on behalf of the executive members of NYCN, Imo State, I write to inform you about plans of some group of persons who want power by all means with the intention to cause mayhem in the council, thereby fuelling security challenges and the tension militating against the state. NYCN caretaker committee in Imo State led by Udoka was inaugurated on 29-10-2021 by NYCN National Executive Council at Pastoral Centre, Owerri, with the representative of Imo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in attendance, as well as DSS and Police”.
“After the inauguration ceremony, the forum of 36 states chairmen of NYCN, through the Chairman, Comr. Idris Ojoko, formally congratulated me and extended an invitation to me for the chairmen forum summit/meeting that was held in Abuja on 2nd December, 2021”.
Accusing the Imo State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Ogu, Dr. Mitchell Chijioke Ekwegh, Cajethan Okoro, Eze Nkwocha, Nonyelu Williams Onyibor and Aburi Williams (former PDP state youth leader, now in APC), the council said the dissident members had raised a factional group with the aim of using them to cause crisis among Imo youths, saying the faction members have consistently opposed the executive in the past using one Humphrey Osuji and Solomon Adodo who also threaten them, describing them as imposters.
The council has implored those concerned to use their good offices to investigate the matter and bring offenders to book to forestall breakdown of law and order in the state and not compounding security challenges in the state, mentioning that NYCN is devoid of any political party inclination, but rather assist government to formulate, implement policies that are youth friendly and human oriented which it said it is currently championing.
The caretaker committee has reiterated commitment in helping youths achieve their goals as they support every activity of government to drive home their demands, urging youths to ignore mischief makers, but behave well and live uprightly.
Effort made to speak with the factional NYCN members and their alleged sponsors proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
