Rev. Fr. Calistus Ajero has said that his late father, Ezinna Donatus Ajero, influenced his humanitarian service to humanity especially the less- privileged with his good deeds to people across board.

Ajero stated this in an interview with journalists during the funeral of his father held at their native compound, Attah, Ikeduru, Imo State, last Friday.
He disclosed that his father who initially objected to his priesthood ambition, drew his inspiration in serving the poor by encouraging him to always render charity to people particularly the poor.

“After my ordination as a priest, I went back to school to study Special Education so that I can teach hearing impaired children, autistic children and those with special need. Since my 21 years in priesthood, I have been helping and celebrating with the less- privileged because I want to raise the voiceless. My father allowed me to be a priest just to help the poor, by then I have gotten admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka. My mum also influenced me positively,” he said.

Ajero who added that his dad was a good, popular and benevolent person who accorded due respect to his elder brothers, reflected that philanthropy runs in their blood as he vowed to consolidate his father’s legacies to move their family, kindred and community forward.

According to him, “my father was popularly called DO by his friends because of his benevolence. He was a boxer and transporter. He would buy wrapper, rice among others and my mother would take last as my father shared them among the family: his brothers wives mainly. My message to people is to live a good life as you associate with people”
