As the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), Owerri Presbytery held her 2022 ecclesiastical opening service, Christians have been urged to imbibe the priestly order to move the church and country forward.

Speaking during the ceremonial opening service at The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Aladinma in Owerri, Imo State last Saturday, the Presbytery Moderator, Rt. Rev. Mrs. Grace Enene Oku posited that this year’s General Assembly (GA) theme which is: A Royal Priesthood (1Pet. 2:9) brings heavier weight upon believers, adding that as God’s holy people and God’s possession, it becomes pertinent that Christians exhibit the qualities of a chosen and holy generation owned by God. “We are to declare the good news of salvation, the kingdom of God and teach His laws, baptize and administer the sacrament, visit members, ordain others into the Aaronic priesthood and above all, do missionary work”

She noted that children of God should step into the identity of living righteous, doing charity, and supporting mankind for the collective inspirational growth of the church and society.

In his remarks, the Presbytery Clerk and the Director, Presbyterian Students Fellowship (PSF), Very Rev. David Ama Kalu said that priestly life involves ensuring that children of God stay within the fold of God, live holy lives, and foster the spiritual growth of individuals. He asked for unlimited grace, overflowing favour, and ever-abiding presence of God upon members of God’s households, stressing that the Lord who has made His people ‘A Royal Priesthood’ will continue to bless, keep, sustain and empower all and sundry to shine as a light for progressive impact and generational illumination.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, (FUTO), who was ably represented by Rev. Dr. Godwin S. Adaka called on believers to continue to live and walk as kings and queens as well as priests as God has charged everyone. He encouraged children of God to walk tall and not be cowed as they are extensions of God’s people.

The event witnessed two inspirational talks on Record Keeping and Report Rendition delivered by Rev. Dr. Nnoke Ibe and Tithing and Giving in PCN, delivered by Rev. Dr. Godwin S Adaka.

Owerri Presbytery of The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria is made up of ten parishes and many outstations scattered within Imo and Abia states.

The highlight of the event was the appreciation/award of members and non-members for their contributions to mankind and society.
