A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Evangelist Mike Ikeokwu, says the withdrawal of the former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, from the PDP gubernatorial primaries was for the good interest of the party.

He added that the decision of Emeka Ihedioha to have withdrawn from the guber race primaries of the PDP showed that he is a great leader who would always give peace a chance having abided by the request of the State Working Committee of the party who he noted wrote a letter to the national body asking that they want a rancour free primaries.

Ikeokwu disclosed this while answering questions from newsmen after a meeting involving leaders of the party at its Secretariat Owerri on Monday.
Stating that one of the frontline contenders for Imo State Douglas House in the November 2023 election, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has capacity and leadership acumen to govern Imo State and restore the dignity of the people and fortunes of the state to the good of all, Ikeokwu hinted that there is no disunity in Imo PDP.

“After every battle, there will be a winner. Nobody has been defeated. Ihedioha, our brother, our leader and our former Governor, on his own, for the interest of the party, decided to withdraw from the PDP gubernatorial primary contest. That does not make him a weak man, it makes him a great leader. He decided to tow the line of peace as requested by the State Working Committee of our party that wrote a letter to the national body asking that they do not want a rancorous primaries – that they would prefer us to have a consensus primaries. Imo belongs to us. True democracy requires us to complete, it is a competition which one person must win, nobody knows who is going to win the Imo governorship election”, he said.

In his words, the PDP State Vice Chairman, Martins Ejiogu, said the party is formidably strong to wrestle power from the APC, calling for the removal of Imo REC, Prof. Sylvia Agu, to avoid rigging the November 2023 guber election.
