An idle mind they say is a devil’s workshop. In like manner, a hungry man is an angry man. Some leaders elected to represent the people can be described as the most idled and recalcitrant individuals…why? Because they sleep uncontrollably, jive, and chase after champagne and frivolities.
The Bible records that people die for lack of knowledge. This implies that every individual, institution or society should be futuristic on issues of public importance. It does appear that every reasonable person must be eager to plan ahead of time.
What Imo state in particular and Nigeria at large are passing through today would have been averted if the political class in the country were proactive, reactive, futuristic in their dealings and utterances with the people.
It will amount to repetition if I go ahead to retrospectively recall my earlier position on how to handle these tedious political and societal problems as it affect the youths.
With much ado, a socialite would always concur with me that the defunct EndSars protest was a sound expression of an age long accumulated grieve. Hitherto, the youths had sought possible ways to burst out their anger, and the exercise gave them the ample opportunity to ease off their qualms.
Regrettably, political leaders allowed the youths to be driven and tossed by the wind. They become so selfish and egoism in handling all issues affecting them. Majority of the “bigger boys” treat the youths with levity.
One can be forced to believe that Nigeria belongs to the political class who retains 15% token of population fraction out of the total number of citizens in Nigeria.No wonder the youths, the women and the less privileged are at the receiving end of negative “dividends” of democracy caused by their insensitivity and administrative ineptness.
Be that as it may, the masses have been passing through severe punishment and pains following the sudden imposition of curfew in the state. Annoyingly, the same masses frustrated, humiliated and relegated to the wall due to the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic, are still struggling to regain and retain their feet.
As a result of the protest, cost of food items skyrocketed to the level that some under privileged individuals are finding things absolutely difficult to feed their families.
As an advocate of good governance and anti corruption crusader, it strikes my imagination to see those elected into positions of authority to represent the people turn themselves as instrument of destruction against those they were expected to protect.
Ironically, I had always rejected the position of most analysts who concur with the negative impression that Nigeria is doomed. However, if I must accept that the country is doomed, it therefore appears that Imo should be seen as been doomed as well.
Why…? A nation where her subordinates are seen in various states representing the interest of the nation under the coloration of party identity, the state can never deny been involved in wrong doings or absolve itself of maladministration.
Since the imbroglio ensued and people blown off cut, most of the major cities where the EndSars protest seriously ravaged had long eased or relaxed the curfew thereby reducing the rate of untold hardship on the people.
Painfully, Imo state that got a small chunk of destruction orchestrated or occasioned by the EndSars demonstration is yet to totally kick out the painful and frustrating order.
Our state has remained one of the most peaceful states in the country, but since the advent of some obvious maladies ranging from non-payment of salaries, pensions and other ancillary fees, the peaceful nature of the state becomes eluded and trampled upon.
Just quite recently, the Governor sought the attention of members of the Imo state House of Assembly to approve a bogus N5 billion to enable him purchase official vehicles for his appointees.
Our state has remained one of the most peaceful states in the
country, but since the advent of some obvious maladies
ranging from non-payment of salaries, pensions and other
ancillary fees, the peaceful nature of the state becomes
eluded and trampled upon. Just quite recently, the Governor

His actions and inactions came at the heels of the heavy
sufferings in the state. Notably, the unemployment rate of the
state got increased from 27% to 52% within a year. This is as
a of the untold hardship the people were thrown into
resulting to loss of jobs and contacts.

No wonder, every average Imolites is a combatant today, and in anguish, everyone is battle ready to “deal” decisively to anyone directly or indirectly provoking him. This is not normal or usual but because the people are not sure that their future and that of their children are heading to.
The pains have defined issues in the negative ways rather than presenting things with facts and figures. If a bag of rice is sold at N42, 000 from N21,000, a satchet of tomato sold from N50 to N150, onions, pepper, oil and other food items go higher beyond expected, one wonders how the people will continue to remain peacefully.
Remarkably, the political class and their family members are busy enjoying whatsoever they need in the midst of the severe economic pandemic and kwashiorkor. This is not only annoying, bitter and mouth ulcer, but a preplanned strategy to humiliate, silence and keep the people in perpetual agony. No wonder the people especially, the youths are resisting it!
Anyways, no matter how good and productive the current government in the state may appear, the truth of the matter is that Imo people are finding it difficult to feed despite other connecting fees, and expenses hovering around them. There should be remedy for the irredeemable!
By so doing, we shall be expecting Imo of our collective dreams!
