A pressure group, Imo Awareness Coalition, (IAC), has described the recent confrontation between Governor Hope Uzodimma and Senator Rochas Okorocha as a deliberate ploy to distract Imo people from the main issue of good governance.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri on Friday, the spokesman of the coalition, Fidelis Echendu said that the rift between the duo is meaningless and a ploy to distract the masses from the main issue.
The group said it is worrisome that issues such as salaries of workers, pensions, rise in level of insecurity in the state and more importantly, the hardship ravaging the people have been “consigned to the background for no reason while Uzodimma and Okorocha’s squabble is elevated and blown out of proportion.
“There is hunger and despondency in the land and little attention is given to it. Workers in the state are lamenting over unpaid salaries and our men and women of yester-years are complaining of non-payment of pensions, rather than focus on these issues and find a lasting solution to them, we have rather placed emphasis on trivial issues such as the latest rift between Okorocha and Uzodimma, which is completely meaningless.
“The people of Imo State suffered under Okorocha. Has there been any change in the lives of the people of the state since he left office? Has the poor state of infrastructure in the state improved since then? The answer is no. If the Uzodimma administration is enabled by law to confiscate properties adjudged to be acquired illegally, then as a government they know what to do and not to elevate act of brigandage just to distract and deceive gullible Imo people”, the coalition chairman stated.
