Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has assured the Yoruba people living in Abia State that his government would always ensure their safety and continue to provide enabling environment for the success.

The governor gave this assurance on Sunday at Abia Government Lodge Aba while playing host to a team of Yoruba leaders in Abia State who paid him a courtesy call.

He pointed out that the government and people of Abia State saw Yorubas as part and parcel of Abia, adding that no Yoruba living in the State should entertain any form of fear while residing or doing business in Abia State.
Ikpeazu recalled that the former military Governor of old Western Region, Lt Col Adekunle Fajuiyi in 1966 offered to be killed with Gen Aguiyi Ironsi, the former Head of State who was also a son of present day Abia State , nothing that such sacrifice was of historic significance.

Ikpeazu urged Abians to ensure continued safety and welfare of Yoruba in the State, recalling that the businesses of Igbo men were always protected in Lagos, which he said, he was a witness, even as a resident in Lagos.

Ikpeazu equally promised to appoint a Yoruba man as his special adviser on ethnic harmony to foster full political participation by the Yorubas in the running of his government.

In their remark earlier, the Yoruba community in Abia State under the aegis of Yoruba Community Development Association, Abia State Chapter, led by Comrade Babatunde Olatunji extolled the governor for the warm reception and audience granted them during the visit.

The Yoruba leaders assured that their people would continue be law abiding in their conducts in the State.
