Over 70 more people are feared dead in some communities in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State following the yellow fever outbreak in the area.
This brings the death toll to 120, New Echo investigation has revealed.

It was gathered that the new deaths were recorded at Isiugwu, Aji, Okpo, Umuopu and Etteh Ulor among other communities in the last two weeks.
About 19 persons died in Isiugwu, while Umuopu recorded 10 new deaths, Etteh had eight; while others occurred at Okpo and Igogoro among others.

The Chairman of Igboeze North Local Government Area, Prince Ejike Itodo was said to have accompanied the health officials who were in Isiugwu for vaccination last Wednesday and directed that all those already infected by disease should be taken to the Enugu Ezike General Hospital for proper treatment.
Itodo confirmed that only two people died in his presence in Isiugwu when he went with health officials for vaccinations on Wednesday, attributing the situation to ignorance on the part of the indigenous people of the area.

“My happiness is that we now have enough vaccines in all the communities and villages in Igboeze North. It takes 10 days for the vaccine to start protecting anybody who has been vaccinated. So, anybody who is already infected should go for full treatment, and not for vaccination”, he stated.
News Echo had earlier reported that 58 people died in Etteh Ulor and Umuopu communities before the state government medical teams, the World Health Organisation, WHO, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, intervened.
