The Senator representing Abia North District at the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has given conditions for his party’s participation in the December, 19 local government and councillorship elections in Abia State.
This is even as Kalu’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) cautioned against any plot to manipulate the polls in favour of any political party.
Kalu, while speaking on the recent timetable released by the Abia State Independent Electoral commission, ABSIEC, expressed the willingness of his party to compete in the polls, boasting that APC would sweep the polls, if the election made free and fair.
Kalu also challenged security agencies to be alive to their responsibility during the polls and to be professional in their conducts.
According to the Senate Chief Whip, “we are asking for a free, fair and credible election. We urge all security agencies to be ready for the election and all eyes to be on the election,”
He went on to add that his party was becoming more popular among Abians with more members arriving in droves from rival political parties.
Corroborating Senator Kalu’s remarks, the Abia APC, through its publicity secretary, Comrade Benedict Godson on Saturday, cautioned the Chairman of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof Agu Mkpa Agu to ensure that a free playing ground is guaranteed for every participating political party during the December 19 LGA polls.
The party boasted that it would field qualified and credible candidates who will achieve victory for it, but warned the electoral umpire to uphold the tenets of credibility and fairness.
