The University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni, Awka branch has marked December 9th, 2020, as a Memorial Day to mark the Founder’s Day in commemoration of the great leaders of the university.
The president, Dr Ngozi Ulogu disclosed this last weekend when the members of the association paid a courtesy visit to the Vice chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe, University Awka, Professor Charles Esimone in his office at Awka.
Speaking during the welcome address, the president of the association, Awka branch, Dr Ngozi Ulogu said the visit was for the association to share in his successes since he became the vice chancellor and thank him for his numerous supports towards the progress of the alumni.
“We are glad on your appointment as the vice chancellor of Unizik and the arrival of newborn babies in your home. Having acknowledged our congratulatory letter, it shows of your humility”
“We equally want to use this medium to seek for your collaboration and support especially during the Founder’s Day celebration coming up on the 9th of December 2020,” she stated.
Also speaking, the permanent secretary and the past president of the association Comrade Leo Imoka, attributed that the turnout of members was impressive as a result of the vice chancellor’s goodwill and charisma.
He point6ed out that the Founder’s Day lectures is an annual event to honor the founding fathers of the great university of Nigeria Nsukka.
Responding, Prof Charles Esimone noted that he is proud to always identify with the University of Nigeria Nsukka because the most important element offered in terms of human capacity is the dignity of man being restored.
He further assured that he will continue to show commitment and love to the alumni, in the best possible way for the growth of the association.
The professor however, bemoaned all forms of illegal acts been perpetrated by some miscreant who go about extorting money from innocent citizens on behalf of knowing the vice chancellor.
Mrs Nkiru Meludu, treasurer of the association in her own part stated that Prof Charles Esimone’s outstanding records are speaks good of his personality while extolling his virtue of time consciousness
Meanwhile, the Founder’s Day lecture is themed “Covid-19 challenges: youth Restiveness and way forward” set to hold at the best western hotels, Awka.
