An unknown motorist on Friday had a raw deal in the hands of security men attached to the convoy of Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umah.
The incident happened at Akabo, along the Owerri – Okigwe expressway, Imo State.
The motorist was brutalized by security men when his car broke down around 7:30PM at a spot popularly known as Orie-Akabo.

His car was said to have caused a gridlock which affected Umahi who was on his way to Imo State where he attended the traditional wedding of the daughter of a business mogul, Chief Tony Chukwu at Ehime Mbano on Saturday.

Our correspondent who witnessed the development, saw army and police personnel attached to the governor’s convoy flogging the motorist whose car had broken down, owing to the potholes at the bad portion of the road.

Umahi, who is the Chairman, South East Governors Forum, was in his official car with the number plate crested” Ebonyi State Governor and was stuck in the gridlock for over 40 minutes, a situation that infuriated his security aides.

One of the security men was hollering, whipping and kicking the motorist and was heard saying ‘how dare you block the convoy of the governor, a bloody civilian like you. We can kill you here and nothing will happen.”

All explanation by the motorist that his car had spoilt, fell on deaf ears as one of the security aides dragged him out of the car and attempted to switch on the engine but to no avail.
The situation infuriated him the more as he descended on the motorist and pushed the vehicle to a nearby fuel station.

The motorist who was writhing in pains, was abandoned on the ground while the security aides made way for the governor’s entourage to drive past.
Special Adviser to the governor on media, Francis Nwaze, when contacted, said that he was not aware of the incident.
