There was a tension at Elelenwo community in Rivers when a police sergeant yesterday shot a civilian, one Abiodun Jimoh, without justification.
Reason behind the killing was not clear, but the victim, who was immediately rushed to the Hospital, later died. His remains have been deposited in the mortuary.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Joseph G. Mukan, who confirmed the incident.

Mukan said, “The incident is being investigated and the police command has assured that the outcome will be communicated to the public, while the Police Sergeant who carried out the dastardly act is currently in custody, for debriefing and psychological evaluation.”
His ‘Orderly Room Trial, according to the police boss, will commence in earnest, for possible arraignment.
The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Nnamdi Omoni, stated that the state Police command is in touch with the deceased family and had commiserated with them, over the unfortunate incident.
He assured them that, the interest of justice will be served in the circumstance, while appealing to the public, for calm and allow the law to take its full course.
