The Boisterous city of Ohafia, Abia State has again been gripped with tension following the killing of a policeman yesterday by some unknown gunmen.

This is even as the Abia State Government has advised all medical facilities in the state to report any patient with gunshot wound to the nearest police station, while still treating such a patient.

It was learnt that on Monday, 7 September, 2020, five policemen were in a spot waiting for the rain to subside when the unknown gunmen, said to be twelve in number attacked them, killing an inspector in the process, while injuring the other officers. The reason for the attack was not yet known as at press time, while the identity of the gunmen had not also been revealed. The injured police officers are now receiving treatment at a hospital in state.

Reacting to the incident, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu assured that investigations had commenced as security agencies in the state had swung into action to apprehend those behind the dastardly act. He also charged all medical facilities to report any patient with bullet injuries to the nearest police station or the Ohafia Local Government Headquarters.

It would be recalled that police stations, cars, quarters and other facilities belonging to the Nigerian Police, Ebem Ohafia were destroyed this year during a riot by irate youths who were protesting the killing of a youth, Ifeanyi Arunsi by a policeman. During the riot, court complex and some local government offices were also burnt down by the protesters.

Also, in July, 2020, the city went up in fracas as youths of Ebem Ohafia destroyed a building known as Church of Satan, belonging to Mr Ifekwe Udo. Ifekwe and 17 others were arrested by the police and charged to court for alleged child trafficking, terrorism and breaking of lockdown order but were later granted bail by Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia.

The church, Assemblies of Light Bearer Greater Church of Lucifer is no more in operation.
