There is tension in Aba, Abia State, following an alleged plot by by some Northerners living the the city to install a paramount ruler of Hausa/Fulani kingdom. The name of the proposed ‘Emir’ of Aba is Alhaji Sariki Shehu Bello while he is allegedly being proposed to lead ‘Aba Emirate Council’.
And to forestall any breakdown of law and order, the State government has ordered the immediate cancellation of the proposed ‘Emir of Aba’ coronation. In a statement by the Secretary to the State government, Barr Chris Ezem, the State government warned the organizers of the proposed coronation of ‘Emir of Aba’ to stop forthwith or risk the wrath of the State government and law enforcement agencies.
The stern warning read: “The attention of Abia State government has been drawn to a proposed coronation of one Sariki Shehu Bello 11 as the Emir of Aba Emirate Council without recourse to government.” “Government wishes to warn all involved in this unauthorized and illegal coronation to stop forthwith or be prepared to face the weight of the the law.”
Abia government went on: “Government hereby by this directs the immediate cancellation of the proposed illegal coronation as there is nothing like Aba Emirate Council in the State.”
The statement went on as “government further warned all residents in the State, especially those residents in Aba to be law abiding.” The Ikpeazu-led government warned that it would not condone any act that may threaten the peace in the State and mandated security agencies to immediately swing into action to arrest and prosecute anyone found flaunting its directives in that regard.
The discovery by the State government created tension in some parts of Enyimba city on Wednesday as many residents condemned the development, describing it as religious and tribal provocation.
