The murder of Barr. Ndionyenma Nwankwo in Owerri last weekend has triggered anguish in Arochukwu, Abia State.
Barr. Nwankwo, who was the former Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Imo State branch, was murdered in cold blood by unknown assailants who attacked him inside his chamber situated at School road, Owerri while the whereabouts of his personal driver was still unknown.
The late Barr. Nwankwo who hailed from Amuvi Atani Arochukwu , Arochukwu LGA of Abia State had spent most of his legal career in Owerri, before becoming the Chairman of NBA Imo State branch.
Until his murder, he was also the executive director of the Omu Aru Newspaper, an international tabloid that projects the interests of Aru nation.
Confirming the sorrow of his people to News Echo in Umuahia last Monday, the Chief Editor of Omu Aru Newspaper, Comrade Harbor Onyema cried out that the killing of the ex-NBA chief was a horrible shock to him and the entire Aru nation.
He regretted that a man who stood for the truth and who contributed immensely to the course of his people through publication of the Omu Aru Newspaper would be killed in cold blood.
The Chief Editor called for thorough investigation into the incident by the Police to unravel those behind dastardly act while noting that his people, media industry as well as those who enjoyed Barr. Nwankwo’s services would miss him.
“We are devastated by the news of the gruesome murder of our brother, son, patron, and distinguished Lawyer. The ugly development is a big shock to behold”, Comrade Harbor said. He stressed that the death of the astute Lawyer left a big shock and vacuum in the minds of all who knew him, especially sons and daughters of Aru nation.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Mohammed and the men of his Command have so far stepped up investigation to unravel the suspects behind the murder.
