Take advantage of ongoing recruitment, Anambra commissioner urges unemployed youths

The Anambra State Commissioner for youth empowerment and creative economy, Prof Theresa Obikeze has re-echoed the state government’s commitment towards job creation for the unemployment youths of state.

Professor Obikeze urged the youths to key into ongoing career opportunities existing in the military, to fill the state quota in both the Nigerian Army and Navy, while assuring them that Anambra State Government will continue to sustain all its youth empowerment intervention programmes, to enable them to be positively engaged.

The Commissioner, made the call during a one day smart jobs enlightenment campaign at Onitsha Monday being organized by the ministry in conjunction with the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youth Wing, which held in Onitsha on Monday 5 October.

According to the commissioner, enlistment into the military is critical to the teeming youths of the state, to enable them play active roles in the nation’s scheme of things and to overcome joblessness.
She also stated that youths should be encouraged to access survival funds introduced by the federal government, to assist artisans as well as palliative for the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, she emphasized the need for youths to build career opportunities in the military and reminded them that portals for military enlistment and to access survival funds were still open for them to apply.

Also speaking, the Director of Project, Smart Jobs, Mr Chidi Kanu, told the participants that government was sponsoring the programme to enable them utilize ICT transaction dynamics to touch their lives.
He said the online training modules had been structured in the areas of travel, hospitality and tourism to drive youths into economic sustainability and development.

Earlier, the National President of ASATU Youth Wing, Mr Patrick Agha Mba, described the initiative by the State government as key to tackling socio-economic challenges confronting the youths. Some of the trainees, including Miss Jane Onuoha, Judith Egbuniwe and Emeka Odiakosa described the training as life saving and commended the State government for sponsoring it.
