Market women at the popular Eke Awka market in Awka south local government area on Thursday ignored the order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on all south eastern states.
News Echo recalls that the IPOB had early issued a sit at home order to all residents and people of the southeast zone over the visitation of president Buhari to Imo start for the commissioning of some projects.
It was gathered that the traders who were basically women started trooping in the market with their goods as early 7:30am in the morning. Although customers where barely reported to have started patronising the traders around 1pm for purchase.
Some of the women who spoke with our correspondent noted that there was no need to comply with the order when most of them still have some perishable commodities.
Mrs. Chinwe Odo who deals on tomatoes and pepper said “I just bought 5 basket of tomatoes with 2 basket of pepper on Tuesday and if I dont sell off these ones by today they will start to loose market value, so that’s why I came out to see if I can sell them off”.
Another seller, simply identified her self as Agnes said she deals on fresh vegetables and could not finish the ones she bought which made her to report in the market to sell off the remaining ones.
