Commercial sex workers numbering over one hundred and fifty operating in Onitsha metropolis and its environs in Anambra state have declared their readiness to participate in a street protest over escalating security crisis and killing of security operatives in the state.

The sex workers made the declaration while reacting to the latest killing of three police men attached to the former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo last week and the recent killing of Naval and police officers by yet to be identified gunmen in the state.

One of the commercial sex workers, Ije Nwa, who spoke on behalf of others told this paper that the security crisis was affecting their business. “The killings in parts of the state, especially that of security personnel is impacting negatively on us, that is why we have mobilised over 150 of our members to protest these attacks.

“We make more money from the security men than any other person, though politicians patronise us well, especially during election period. It is unfair to start killing our customers who protect lives and property”, she stressed.

Another commercial sex worker who identified herself as Ujunwa, added that the security crisis in the state was an ill wind that blows nobody good.

“It’s very bad that whenever we are about to conduct election in the state some people will be used as sacrificial lamb.

“This protest must hold immediately after Easter celebration. We will come out in large number, up to 150 of us and those of us in Onitsha will lead the protest,” she vowed.
