About 150 indigent students from Anambra Central Senatorial District have been offered scholarship worth millions of naira by Senator I. G. Abana Foundation.
The Foundation also empowered 25 youths with vocational training skills with Sewing machines, hair driers, generator sets, Welding machines and Carpentry tools among other items.
News Echo gathered that the beneficiaries of the empowerment and scholarship are to study different courses at the first degree level in their various choice of University in the country.
Addressing the students, at Enugwu-Ukwu Primary school field in Njikoka local Government Area of the state, the Founder of Foundation, Senator Ikechukwu Godson Abana, said the vision of the Foundation is to improve the general well-being of the people at the rural areas in all ramifications and it cut across ethnic and religious background.
He said Yoruba, Hausas, Fulani and other ethnicity residing in the area were among those empowered with vocational tools to uplift their living standard and also for them to feel sense of belonging as one Nigeria.
He added that the scholarship and empowerment programmes, was part of what God has sent him to do in the World and that he will continue to do it for the benefit of the people.
“The programme has no political undertone but natural services to humanity,” Abana stated.
He noted that the Medical department of the Foundation during the event also employed the services of twelve medical doctors, twelve Nurses, Pharmacists and Laboratory attendants to attend to the health needs of the people especially the elderly ones free of charge.
The Senator who represented Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly between 2003-2007 urged the beneficiaries to explore the opportunities provided by the scholarship award to develop themselves and chart a better path to their future by devoting their time to their individual educational pursuit.
In a brief remark, Deputy governor of the state, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who also hail from the Senatorial District, described the scholarship award and the empowerment Programmes of the Foundation as a good development, capable of enhancing social, educational and economic growth in Anambra state.
He urged the Founder, Senator Abana not to hesitate in calling on the state government to support the Foundation whenever the needs arising.
It was also gathered that the Foundation, a Humanitarian, non-profit and nongovernmental organization was endowed on December 27 2010 by Senator Ikechukwu Godson Abana with the main purpose of uplifting the lives of the needy, the sick, the elderly and the vulnerable people in the society.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Chisom Okeke, who was empowered with a head drier and a generator set, while thanking the benefactor for his kind gesture, appealed to other wealthy individuals in the society to emulate him adding that it will help to reduce the high rate of crime in the country.
