Anambra State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has condemned the killing of three policemen attached to the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and Anambra 2021 governorship aspirant (APGA), Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and the abduction of a serving Commissioner in the State, Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne.
The party in a statement issued by the State Chairman, Dr. Webster Okonkwo in Awka, on Thursday, said that it is worried by the rising level of insecurity in the country with particular reference to Anambra State.
He noted that the penchant of the Buhari led government for stoking ethnic tensions and its failure to address the root causes of restiveness in different parts of the country are actually fueling this violence across the nation. While we condemn violence in any form and condole with families of the bereaved, we urge Nigerians to use every opportunity to vote out these three parties that have plunged the country into a destructive pit.
A human right organization, Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), through her Chairman, Prince Chris Azor, described the incident as scary and absolutely unacceptable. Azor said that the incident was one of the envisaged early warning signs precursory to the vital election.
The group called on all security agencies and stakeholders to sharpen their surveillance skills with a view to ensure that the culprits are promptly apprehended and those in captivity released.
They further implored the State Governor, Willie Obiano to declare a state of emergency on security to ensure safety of lives and property of citizens.
The chairman Anambra Demands Soludo, Chief Jude Okechukwu Emecheta, on his part, queried the remote reason behind the recent assassination attempt on Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, which he described as strong contender in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Emecheta who was apparently traumatized by the assassination attempt on the former CBN governor in his country home Isuofia Aguata local government area sought to know what sin Prof. Soludo committed to warrant plot to end his life. Emecheta, who spoke with News Echo in Awka in an emotion-laden voice on the sad development, said Soludo did not offend anyone by nursing the ambition to become the next governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
