The Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike has berated the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for zoning the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket to the riverine area of the south-south state.
The Rivers State governor vouched that not even him as the incumbent governor, had the power to determine who becomes a governor in Rivers.
He made the observation at the grand finale of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, local government campaign rally in Bori, the headquarters of the Khana Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.
The governor further advised the Transportation Minister, to respect the people’s view and adopt internal democracy mechanism, to make for emergence of the party’s choice candidate.
Recall that the issue of zoning to the riverine area, the APC governorship ticket, was among the crisis that robbed the Rivers APC participation, in the 2019 general elections.
Barely a month ago the matter re-echoed, when the immediate past senator representing Rivers South East, Barr Magnus Ngei Abe challenged the Minister, that he as an individual lacked the authority to zone the governorship to the riverine, without due consultation, with party leadership and major stakeholders.
