The Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has given contractors handling some federal roads in the State up to November 20 to return to sites to continue their jobs, failing which the State government would be forced to begin reconstruction of bad portions of the roads.
Ikpeazu gave the charge on Friday in Umuahia while interacting with journalists in Government House, Umuahia.
The Governor identified the roads such as Enugu -Umuahia -Port Harcourt express way and Aba -Ikot Ekpene roads which he said, had been sources of worries to Abians and their means of livelihood.
He noted that if nothing was done after the November 20 ultimatum, his government would be forced to begin works in certain parts of the bad roads.
He further disclosed that the federal government was yet to refund any dime to his government for the money spent to repair federal roads in Abia .
Ikpeazu also used the opportunity to charge the Commissioners for finance and works respectively,. Dr Aham Uko and Hon Bob Ogu to ensure the payment of contractors handling various road projects in the State according to the mileage they had achieved.
