The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr. Akachukwu Nwankpo has called on the Federal Government to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Akachukwu Nwankpo, made the plea at the unveiling of the ‘Umunna Revolution’ an Igbo homegrown democratic model which he planned implementing if elected as governor.
Speaking through his Director of Media and Strategy, Dr. Harris Chuma-Odili, Nwankpo said the Biafran leader could be released on bail while his trial continues.
He also argued that Kanu’s release would not only eliminate the tangible tension in the region, but permit the people of the state to have peaceful election in the state.
According to the media director He said, “I want to use this opportunity to call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention so we can have our election peacefully, our people are not happy that they are still keeping him.
“He also said “I don’t know why they’re keeping him and I don’t think there is anything wrong in granting him bail, adding that they should grant him bail and continue the trial with good sureties to guarantee his presence in court on any adjourned date.
“It will never be a big deal to allow him to breath fresh air, so that we can go into this election without the tangible fear that is in the air. Igbos are speaking in one voice now. We are not happy that he is still being imprisoned and the federal government should know that an election is about to be held.
Nwankpo said the Umunna Revolution which the ADC was championing was a ‘kindred-based’ governance model for inclusiveness and wellbeing of the majority.
The ADC candidate, Akachukwu Nwankpo who talked about the Umunna system of government, added that the “Umunna revolution is taking governance to grassroots and that’s even what Nnamdi Kanu stands for. He has never preached on behalf of the elites. He’s a grassroot crusader. The umunna system will address Igbo marginalisation.
