The Secretary to the Abia State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem has advised the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to set up machineries that will look into the recurring building collapse across the country.

The SSG said he was worried by the incessant building collapse across the nation, especially in Abia State. He gave the charge on Tuesday in Umuahia while receiving members of the NSE who paid him a visit in his office .

He described the frequent building collapse as a challenge to the engineers and advised them to brainstorm on measures to ensure that the town planners did their jobs effectively and efficiently.

The Abia SSG assured the NSE of government’s support and partnership needed to build Abia and take it to the next height.

Earlier in his address, the NSE Umuahia branch Chairman, Engr Uzoma Ohia lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for approving his nominees and state government representatives in the reconstituted state technical committee of Engineering Regulatory and Monitoring Inspectorate, (ERM)

Ohia who revealed that it will enhance effective monitoring of the engineering projects in Abia State and ensure value for life and resources, called on the government agencies and individuals to always engage only qualified, certified and seasoned engineers for projects

Ohia said, “It is absolutely necessary for our leaders and itizens to develop the strong political will to vigorously pursue sound engineering and technical development. It is our belief that the government at all levels and engineers must work in absolute synergy to achieve the best for the state and the country in general”.

He continued, “as we continue to work together, it is our firm belief that this collaboration will be mutually beneficial to all, whilst yielding the necessary dividends on sustainable infrastructural development in the state”.
