Anambra State Police operatives have rescued a middle-aged man, Chukwunenye Nwachukwu Nwadiobu, after foiling an assassination attempt by men suspected to be members of a cult group.

News Echo Correspondent gathered that the incident occurred at about 8:30PM on Saturday, when some alleged gunmen attacked Nwadiobu popularly known as Akirika and whisked him away to a bush at the Ifite Awka axis.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed who made this known to newsmen on Sunday, said they received a distress call on the fateful day that unknown gunmen in a tricycle close to Aroma junction forced a vehicle to a stop and dragged out a middle aged man from his toyota Sienna car with REG No. AWK-334-SZ, and whisked him away.

Haruna said police operatives in conjunction with vigilante group responded swiftly and went after the gang to a location inside an expansive bush at Agbani ifite Awka where the assailants on sighting the police, abandoned their badly beaten victim who was tied with a rope and about to be murdered on a laid wooden stake before the arrival of the police.

The PPRO disclosed that exhibits recovered at the scene include an operational tricycle and identity card belonging to one of the suspects.

“Consequently, exhibits recovered at the scene include a blue and white coloured tricycle with REG NO. AWK-161-VG; ID card bearing one ORDINAKA AYAEGBUSI also identified by the victim as one of his assailants and other incriminating items”, he stated.

He however noted that investigation has intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and get them off the streets.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, while thanking the people for providing the command with actionable intelligence, reassured the public of adequate protection.

CP Abang further made a clarion call on all residents of the state to report the aforementioned suspect or any suspicious persons to the nearest police station.
