The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter has dismissed the report credited to the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in which he claimed that many members of the party had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The PDP in a statement from its spokesman, Mr. Fabian Nwankwo, in Umuahia on Saturday, urged Abians and the general public to disregard the claim.
Kalu had been quoted as saying that thousands of PDP members joined APC at his Camp Neya home in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area.
Nwankwo submitted that Kalu was only on ego-boosting dance, adding that the Senate Chief Whip was trying to impress the presidency and APC office in Abuja about his popularity.
He charged Abians to maintain their support for the PDP and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration, as according to him, the PDP was in tune with the needs of the people.
“We challenge Orji Uzor Kalu to make available the pictures of the thousands of PDP members he purported to have defected to APC in his residence. The pictures being circulated in Abia by his cronies do not make up to twenty people despite the fact that the faces are well known APC members”, the statement reads.
The PDP further insisted that Kalu’s home does not have the capacity to contain up to 1,000 persons, adding that the senator’s claims were jokes taken too far.
