→They are responsible for backwardness of South East – INC
→Govs lack capacity to manage Igbo expectations – Sam Amadi
Wide spread reactions have trailed the weekend statement made by the South East governors to the effect that the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) would cause a war in Nigeria.
Many individuals and groups have knocked the governors over what they termed unsavory comments coming from them
The governors made the comment in Port Harcourt when they paid a visit to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over the alleged massacre of Igbo people in the Oyigbo local government of the state.
In the statement published in national dailies, the Nation newspaper reported that the governors led by Umahi of Ebonyi State warned Igbos to be wary of IPOB and that the outlawed group was trying to instigate another war
Speaking Dr. Sam Amadi, an activist, lawyer and former Chairman, National Electricity Regulatory Commission took a swipe at the governors and their comment.
Hear him, “If that is what they said then it is a useless statement, they did not go there to fight a war with IPOB, they went there as representatives of the people, it is not a trial. They exhibited their hatred against IPOB because of their weaknesses to manage Igbo expectations in Nigeria.
By the way is it not these same governors that have this IPOB boys killed under their noses without taking the slightest legal procedure. These governors are not serious, nobody should take them serious.”
“ In a swift reaction, the President of Igbo National Congress, (INC) Comrade Chilos Godsent stated that the allegation by IPOB to cause war is a blatant lie.
“In his words, “it is blackmail against IPOB, against Igbo self determination group. Again, we the INC wish to state emphatically that the purported meeting held in Port Harcourt was a total betrayal against the entire Igbo nation because it shows that the affected South East leaders are beggars rather than political elites,
because in our own context it would have been Wike who killed, masterminded, gave order to massacre innocent citizens of Nigeria in Oyigbo local government to he was not the one that acted rather than the purported Igbo elites leaving the South East to go there shows that they are cheap beggars.
“It is a total betrayal of their integrity if they have one. This is because in all contexts and ramifications the Fulani would not have come here to beg, instead Wike would have gone to the Fulanis to plead. So we need to understand that the so called Igbo political elites are the cause of our economic and political backwardness. We condemn this beggarly attitude.”
“In another reaction, Air Commodore Luke Ochulor, stated that I don’t think Nnamdi Kanu is an Igbo man from his utterances because Igbo people speak with a lot of sense. He talks like a ship without rudder.
Danger is that when you tell these boys that they don’t know what they are doing they turn round to attack you. Whatever it is, they have to speak with diplomacy any way. Our experience since the 1947 riot in Kano, is once there is problem in Nigeria,
they shift it to the Igbos in spite of all our contributions to the country. So we should be very careful. Most of the time when trouble start they will bring us out and leave us, our children should have learnt from this. Our people should tread with caution,” he warned.
Other persons phoned in to protest the governors’ comments against IPOB.
