People have been advised to ensure safety at their environments: workplace, home, business area, school, church and farm.
This piece of advise was given by a Fellow of Occupational Safety and Health Association, United Kingdom, Nigeria Region and Desk Officer for Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, Dr Madu Augustine Chinwe, JP, during a two-day Occupational Safety and Health Training, held at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Owerri, last week.
The training, tagged “Workplace Safety Is Important For productivity” (Prepare And Prevent, Do Not Repair And Repent), saw participants mainly drawn from the polytechnic community.

Madu told people to ensure that they are always safety conscious as they carry out any activity at any given environment to avoid hazards which he said often occur especially when safety principles are not observed.
Madu who is also the Desk Officer of OSHAssociation-UK for Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, stressed that Risk Prevention and Environmental Safety means that people should abide by Safety Rules, ensure that everything they do does not affect another person in their workplace, market, field, school or church, saying mastering the Principles of Safety Precautions and Practicing them at such environments is germane.
“Management of Safety Risk is everyone’s business. Be careful at work, keep safe and healthy environment, as a worker, a teacher or a trader take reasonable care of your own health and safety in your place of work and the safety and health of others who may be affected by your actions or activities. As a person conducting a business, you have a primary duty of care, observe, apply safety laws”, Madu advised.
While encouraging people to keep hygiene, bath well and regularly too, eat natural food, do routine physical exercise, avoid smoking, avoid stress, avoid too much of maggi or spices in food, shun excess alcohol intake, avoid eating late at night, drink enough water to prevent diabetes (blood sugar), hypertension, chronic kidney infection and other deadly diseases, Madu urged people to enroll in the training program to acquaint themselves with safety principles to live healthy and happy at all times, informing that fee for the training is quite affordable.
Noting that the Health and Safety At Work Act of 1974 provides all rules binding all work environment or organization, Administration Secretary, OSHAssociation -UK, Engr. Odunze Desmond, charged people to imbibe Safety Education, think well before they act to overcome risk, accident or hazards.
