The Interim Management Committee Chairman, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, Mrs Ifeoma Ndukwu, has harped on the need to revamp and boost agriculture at the rural areas by encouraging people with seedlings and other agricultural enhancement products.
Ndukwu made this promise while fielding questions from newsmen during the flag- off of inputs distribution to farmers. The event which took place at the Heroes Square, Owerri, is part of measures to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 pandemic on the citizens.
She said the dilapidated plantain plantation, pineapple orchard, fishery, among others at the local government area would be revamped to enhance good living with good income, adding that enhanced agriculture could help the people to cushion the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, which she regretted debilitates the world.
The Orlu Council boss, who joined other government appointees to witness the event, noted that Orlu Council was borrowing a leaf from the agricultural revolution of the state to enhance food sufficiency and preservation”.
Ndukwu, who stressed that she would replicate the vision of Governor Hope Uzodimma on agricultural revolution at Orlu LGA to motivate youths to fully embrace farming and productivity, announced that she was impressed at the governor’s effort in distributing seedlings to farmers in the State.
She said agriculture was focal to economic success, even as she expressed gratitude to the government for remembering poor farmers, whom she encouraged to continue to work hard to be economically buoyant with food sufficiency and security.
