An unidentified man said to be in his mid 20s was shot dead in front of Aba Motor Park, near Post Office in Umuahia, Abia State on Friday evening.
He was shot at about 7:15 pm during a confrontation with men of the anti-riot Police team maintaining the curfew order imposed by the Abia State government.
It was gathered that the dead young man allegedly belonged to a group of men who arrived from Aba Friday evening.
An account also has it that the group which was armed with broken bottles, chased the Policemen around in alleged bid to snatch arms from them, but in defense, the Policemen shot at them, during which one of the attackers was shot in the lower abdomen, leading to his death.
The sporadic shooting caused panic around the Umuahia Railway quarters and adjoining homes.
However, the corpse of the late young man was reportedly removed by the Police team to an unknown place, even as efforts made to get the reaction of Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna could not yield any result.
Meanwhile, the popular Onions market at Port Harcourt Road , Aba was on Wednesday night set ablaze by some hoodlums with two trailers offloading fresh bags of the commodity in the market also catching flames in the process.
