The people of Ondo State will morrow troop to the polls to pick their governor who will preside over their affairs in the next forty eight months. There is tension everywhere as the two major political parties, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) exude confidence to clinch the day.
Everything baring any upset appears a direct contest between the incumbent Rotimi Akeredolu and his former deputy Eyitayo Jegede.
In the election in which seven parties are slugging it out it has been claim after counter claims. Candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Mr. Agboola Ajayi, has boasted that he will defeat Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s governorship election.
In another boast a former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr. Olusegun Agbalajobi, has said nothing will stop Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s re-election.
He said Akeredolu would emerge victorious with a wide margin on Saturday, adding that any conspiracy against him would fail because he had restored people’s hope in governance.
Meanwhile, there is heavy presence of security operatives in the state as the Independent Electoral Commission began distribution of sensitive materials.
Expectations are high that the Ondo election should reflect in character last month’s Edo election which was widely adjudged as free and fair.
