Leaders of Okpala Ama Asaa Autonomous Community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, has presented their Eze-Elect, Chief Obinna Eziakonwa to the Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Mayor Obinna Nwaeke.
The community leaders did the presentation at the Council headquarters, Umuneke where they craved for an official recognition of the Eze-elect by the IMC chairman.
Addressing the delegation, the IMC Chairman, Mayor Obinna Nwaeke who expressed happiness over their peaceful disposition encouraged them to retain the peace.
He used the opportunity to enlighten them on some of the important projects sited in the area by the governor and encouraged them to support the shared prosperity government of Senator Hope Uzodimma.
IMC chairman reassured them of the government determination to rebuild, reconstruct and recover the state from its lost glory.
Adding his voice, Director of Administration and General Services (DAGS), Barr. Emeka Odua informed leaders of the community that presentation to the local government was a constitutional laid down procedure in the recognition of a traditional ruler, but do not mean final recognition and explained further that the documents and feelings of the Okpala community will be officially communicated to the appropriate authority, including the Bureau for Chieftaincy and Local Govt Matters, for onward transmission to the state governor.
Fielding questions from newsmen, the Eze-Elect, Chief Obinna Eziakonwa said that his nomination and selection was without bitterness or rancour as the seven villages were duly consulted and are all in support of his ascension to the throne that has remained vacant with the demise of HRH, Eze Kene Okereke.
In his words, “I am grateful that the God Almighty have made this day a reality. “My leadership as the traditional ruler will be favourable and peaceful to my people. My assurance is that the people of Okpala should expect progress and prosperity. We will continue to support the government to succeed”. The Eze-elect enthused.
