People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has elected Chief Emma Okewulonu as it’s candidate for Okigwe Senate byeelection slated for 31st October, 2020.
Emma Okewulonu hails from Obowo local government and the younger brother of Chris Okewulonu, immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
scored 609 votes to defeat his only rival in the primaries, Hon Patrick Ndubueze, who had 27 votes. A total of 659 ballots were cast with 23 void votes.
The primary was free, fair and successful as delegates conducted themselves peacefully and orderly. Security personnel, INEC and other observers were present at the election venue at the PDP Secretariat, Anara, Isiala Mbano local government area, Imo State.
Announcing the result , Chairman of the Elec t oral Committee, Chuba Uranusi, said the party has given mandate to one aspirant, Emma Okewulonu, who could win election and represent Okigwe people effectively at the Senate, noting that the party was satisfied with the outcome of the election.
The Electoral Committee Chairman added that indirect system was adopted in the election as voters were being called from the accredited list with them filling and voting orderly and peacefully.
In his reaction, Ndubueze rejected the outcome of the election saying that the party acted subjudice. According to him, “we are already in court and they should not have gone ahead with the election.”
Thanking the PDP for following a due electoral process that ushered him as candidate of the party for Okigwe Senate Byeelection, Emma Okewulonu, promised that he would do his best to improve development and social life for the people of Okigwe Zone.
He pleaded that they see him worthy and most qualified for the Senate Seat and give him their mandate, saying he would remain cordial to the people, loyal to PDP and friendly to all.
Affirming the result and his candidacy for the Okigwe Senate, Okewulonu appealed to his rival, Ndubueze to fully support him to move the party forward, even as the interest of the people remains paramount and undeniable.
“I accept the result of the delegate primary election. I will carry everybody along. Let all Okigwe sons a nd daughters support me to move Okigwe Zone to higher level of prosperity, because I have the mission and vision to represent my people effectively at the Senate. We shall all have every course to thank God”, Okewulonu maintained.
Okewulonu reiterated his commitment to serving the people and the PDP effectively and sincerely having been tried and trusted by all, stressing his resolve to reflect actual democracy and civil generosity to obliterate poverty and insecurity.
Patrick N dubuze however, was not present for the election.
