One of the aspirants for the position of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in the January 2021 election, Prof. George Obiozor, has declared that his aspiration is driven by a burning passion to better the lot of the Igbo in Nigeria.

Obiozor made the remark while briefing newsmen in Owerri on Monday, on issues concerning his quest for the presidency of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and sundry matters.
He stated that the Igbo cannot afford to engage in irrational gambling because according to him, success is the greatest revenge against injustice.

“The position of President General is not an ambition, it is an inspiration. Our people need help. One thing we need is to have an Igbo man who is capable of building some level of consensus among talented people of lgboland to come together and develop the land, not people with political ambition”, he submitted.
He noted that Nigeria is in a situation where every group is re-strategizing and noted that the Igbo must not be left out, even as he outlined the problems of the Igbo to include insecurity, neglect of education, and individualistic tendencies among others.

Making a remark, an elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu insisted that the consensus candidature of Obiozor was not his choice but that of different stakeholders and leaders in Imo State.
He said among the other candidates, Obiozor impressed the committee with his impeccable credentials and diplomatic experiences.

“At a time when those contesting heard Obiozor was contesting, six voluntarily withdrew. We asked those interested to apply and send their credentials. That is how it is done constitutionally in all the states making up the Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Three names are sent constitutionally”, Iwuanyanwu claimed.
He noted that when the selection committee screened the candidates, the gap between them and Obiozor was exceptionally wide, resulting in his selection as preferred candidate.
