With the view to sustaining peace, joy, comfort, social security and progress at their area, indigenes of Ogbennisii autonomous community in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, have unanimously agreed to end all forms of females rights abuse including obnoxious laws that infringe human freedom.
The agreement to stop harmful widowhood practices, female genital mutilation (FGM), sexual harassment (rape), domestic violence, denial of rights, privileges, forceful marriage among other abuses was holistically reached and sealed by the traditional ruler of Ogbennisii, HRH, Eze, B.O.S Mmadinobi (Odozie Obodo 1 Ogbennisii autonomous community) and his cabinet members (chiefs) after they had painstakingly studied and assimilated a document crafted in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on human rights protection presented to them by the Facilitators and CEO of Virgin Heart Foundation (VHF) at the Eze’s palace last week.
Speaking, the traditional ruler affirmed that the cabinet members and the entire indigenes of Ogbennisii community have consciously and unanimously said no to all forms of violence, abuse and denial of rights of females especially indigent women and the girlchild.
Eze Mmadinobi added that he is “one of the advocates of females’ rights. I fully support Virgin Heart Foundation on its crusade and defence on females’ inalienable rights, for women are the beauty of the society. We have all agreed to respect and defend rights of females and even some males to ensure a better, peaceful, prosperous society for all. We heartily appreciate human rights based organizations particularly VHR for helping to see that such obnoxious laws or anti- human norms are put to a perpetual end in Ogbennisii community”.
Earlier, Founder of VHF and Imo based journalist, Peace Dike, applauded the people of Ogbennisii for the positive move in ending all forms of abuse against females, describing Eze Mmadinobi as a pragmatic human who has been in the vanguard of making case for females, as well as defending their rights no matter the circumstance, assuring that VHF would continue to champion the cause of women and the girlchild, calling on other communities who deplete the cause and rights of females to stop so that the society goes freely and safely for all persons irrespective of sex, class or religion.
