Business Mogul, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana and former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Dr Chris Akomas will be honoured by Abia State Polytechnic, Aba on Friday as the school holds her 11th and 12th combined convocation ceremony.
This is even as the Poly has established Aba Business School modeled after Lagos Business School.
The Rector of Abia Poly, Associate Professor Hagler Okorie made these known on Wednesday while addressing Journalists in his office about the Convocation and achievements of the institution.
Hagler who called for a fair reportage on the institution, said the situation in Abia Poly was not bad as regularly reported by many media organizations.
He stated that Abia Poly had not held a convocation for graduates in the last twelve years, saying that combined eleventh and twelveth convocation will be held on Friday for 28,000 graduates.
Ass.Prof Okorie who conducted Journalists round the school facilities said Abia Polytechnic most of the lecturing staff in the Polytechnic are Doctorate Degree Holders, when compared to those at private-owned Polytechnic.
The Rector who promised to shore up school’s revenue base through alternative business strategies, said doing so would compliment every revenue that comes from Abia State government.
He declared that “Abia Poly is back on track”, saying that the institution is ready to reclaim and surpass her glorious past years.
He further assured that backlog of staff salaries which he met on resumption of duty, would be systematically cleared through combined internally generated revenues and Abia State subventions.
He advised admission seekers in the State to make Abia State Polytechnic their first choice even as he vowed that all Tertiary Education Fund, TERTFUND contracts in the school would be executed by engineering, building and architectural arms of the Poly.
The Rector who identified sharp drop in students population as a big challenge to his school, said modalities had been put in place to turn the situation around by increasing students population.
On the award for Obi Cubana, the Rector said it was in recognition of their contributions to development of education and upliftment of humanity in general.
