The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed 95 per cent of its personnel to protect government’s critical infrastructure in Akwa Ibom during the yuletide.

The state Commandant of NSCDC in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Samuel Fadeyi, disclosed this to newsmen in Uyo.
Fadeyi said that yuletide always comes with influx of visitors into the state, adding that the agency had planned ahead of time to ensure peace and security.

“We have deployed 95 per cent of officers and men during this festive period to ensure that activities of criminals are short-lived. You can see, a lot of things may want to happen, which we do not want.

“The aim is to ensure that the security of lives and property are guaranteed. The main objective is to ensure protection of government’s critical assets and infrastructure which is our core mandate”, Fadeyi said.
The commandant said that the command would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He stated that the command would deploy personnel to churches to protect worshippers during the period, maintaining that it has also mapped out all flashpoints in the state to ensure peace throughout the celebration.

He urged residents, worshippers and fun makers in the state to go about their activities in line with COVID-19 protocol unmolested; stressing that adequate security has been put in place.

“We will collaborate with other security agencies and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) around major roundabouts in the city to ensure free flow of traffic throughout this season.

“Our men will be visible in all malls and recreational centres in the state, to ensure fun seekers enjoy themselves without any hindrance,” he said.

Fadeyi warned criminals and those wanting to foment trouble in the state to steer clear as security operatives would deal decisively with trouble makers.

The state commandant commended Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom for the donation of patrol vehicles to security agencies in the state.
