Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has posited that no other national service can equate or supersede volunteering to join the Nigerian Army.
Uzodimma made the assertion in his speech during the launching of emblem appeal fund on Friday, as part of activities marking the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
He noted that the welfare of widows and family members of officers who lost their lives in the course of national defence services have not been given adequate attention.
The governor, however assured them of the support of the government and people of Imo State, while promising to partner the leadership of the Nigerian Legion to enhance the welfare of retired military officers in the state.
“Going forward, we will ensure that members of the Nigerian Legion will be involved in all the empowerment programmes we have in the state. We will also extend palliatives to them. I want to assure you that in us, you have a partner”, the stated.
He promised to analyse their requests, so as to attend to them, promising that the government will be involved to organise a more robust celebration next year.
In her address at the occasion, Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Group, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu appealed to Imolites to donate generously to the fund, to enhance the well-being of members of the Nigerian Legion in the state.
