The political power tussle between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and Senator Andy Uba, over who controls the Anambra State All Progress Congress (APC), continued on Wednesday, as High Court siting in Awka, restrained the ongoing ward/local government congresses in the state.
News Echo gathered that the state chapter of the party is currently holding her Ward/LGA congresses to elect new executives ahead of the Party National Convention, slated for Fabuary 26, 2022.
But the State factional Secretary of the party, Barrister Chukwuma Agufugo, who spoke to Journalists in Awka, on the electoral process, said the exercise was a waste of time and resources, noting that the High Court siting in Awka, on Wednesday, had stop the process.
Agufugo, who is the leader of Ngige faction, said the Judgement was delivered by Justice Ike Ogu, at Court 1
According to him, the congresses will not continue because the court had issued an order restraining the party, APC in Anambra state from holding any congresses till further notice.
It could be recalled that some members of the state exco, approached and prayed the court to grand them an order to hold their congresses and the case was visited on Wednesday, where Justice Ike Ogu, ordered the stoppage of the process under the backdrop that the tenure of the current State exco under the leadership of Chief Basil Ejidike, has not expired, he explained.
Meanwhile, the Congress Committee, has instisted that the All Progressive Congress APC, in the state, has no faction.
This was made known by the National Chairman for Anambra wards /local government congresses, Mr. Obinna Atuonwu while speaking to some journalists at the sideline of a meeting he held with the party stakeholders in Awka Anambra state on Tuesday night.
The party wards/local congress kicked off on Wednesday in all the 326 wards and 21 local government area of the state.
He said that , the only party leadership in the state known by the national APC is led by chief Basil Ejidike.
According to him, the party does not recognised any group/faction other than one led by Ejidike, noting that because of the recognition they were sent to conduct the Wards/ local government congress in the state.
The only known APC in Anambra is the one led by chief Basil Ejidike and that was why we were conducting the party wards/local government congress.
We are not here to do referee for opponents but to do what our party directed us and we stand by what the national told us to do,” he said.
