NEMA donates materials to fire,  flood disaster victims in Abia

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Sunday said it has commenced the distribution of sheets of zinc, nails and food items to some communities in Abia State where flooding and fires disasters took place this year.

NEMA’s head of operations in charge of Imo/Abia, Mr Evans Ugoh made this known in Umuahia in a release he made available to journalists.

He explained that the victims who are drawn from Obingwa, Osisioma and Ukwa West LGAs would receive relief materials which include bags of rice, beans, salt, vegetables sheets of roofing zinc, nails etc, adding that it was donated to the victims to enable them cushion the effects of their travails.

According to the director, the benefiting communities are Ovom-Amairinabuo, Amaise- Umuizide, Obuohia-Ogwe, Umunwarie, Umuechem and Umuoru-Umuode communities, pointing out that some of the relief materials would shares directly to the victims through a joint exercise by NEMA, Abia State Emergency Management Agency and security agents.

It used the occasion to express the message of sympathy from NEMA’ Director-General, Rtd Air Vice Marshal Mohammadu Mohammed to the victims and called for amicable behavior among beneficiaries.

Some representatives of the communities, including Hon Godwin Adiele, House of Assembly member of Ukwa West constituency and Eze Nwagbara of Amaise- Umuizide extolled the leadership of NEMA and federal ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development for remembering them in their plight, noting that the relief materials would go a long way in alleviating the problems of their people.
