A coalition of ex-militant leaders in the Niger Delta region has appealed to the federal government for immediate appointment of a Sole Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the region.
The ex-militants made the call, in a statement, yesterday in Port Harcourt, owing to persistent litigations against the Professor Keme Pondei led Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC
The coalition under the aegis of Leadership Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, LPCDI, said since nature abhors vacuum, it was necessary for the federal government to appoint a sole
administrator to oversee NDDC.
In a letter to President Mohammadu Buhari through the office of the Chief of Staff to the President and copied to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker Federal House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the ex-agitators urged the president to continue to intensify effort in repositioning the commission, for maximum benefit of the Niger Delta region.
The letter which was signed by the national secretary of the group, Nature Dumale; national president, Pastor Reuben Wilson and its spokesperson, Joshua Opia, expressed satisfaction over the genuine interest of President Buhari to use the instrumentality of the NDDC to transform the region in the area of infrastructure deficit.
The group reminded that during the dark days of militancy, they agitated for a better Niger Delta region and are ready to support the president and leaders of the region to achieve the desired results.
“The appointment of a Sole administrator will stabilise the commission which is embattled with various court cases and it will help pave way for the incoming new board”, the group said.
It expressed delight in the recent appointment of Col. Milan Dikio (rtd) as the Sole Administrator, to run the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP.
