Frontline governorship aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe has called on women, mothers especially, to work and pray for the peace of the land.

Lady Onyemelukwu said this in a statement issued in Awka on Sunday, to commemorate the annual Mothers’ Day celebration of the Roman Catholic faithful.

In her message, Onyemelukwe, who was the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in the Anambra 2017 governorship election, said the distressing wave of insecurity in Anambra and other parts of the south-east calls for the timely intervention of mothers.

She also called on those in authority to roundly address issues that fuel violent agitations.

“With an alarmingly youth unemployment rate, a distressed economy and a galloping inflation rate, this is certainly not the best of times for our women, especially mothers who have to take on the extra responsibility of fending for their unemployed young adults.”

According to her, if elected, shall “offer opportunities for our people to get affordable healthcare, good education, gainful employment and dividends of democracy. We shall implement political and gender-based equity in elective and appointive positions based on a 60:40 ratio”.

“We shall seek to reinstate cordial relationship with our international development partners. Most of these opportunities will be targeted at Anambra women and youths.”

Onyemelukwe, now running to replace the incumbent governor whose tenure will elapse in 2022, served as a Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
