Metallurgical Training Institute (MTI), a monotechnic under the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development established to cater for the middle- skilled man power development has assured her numerous students of the readiness to resume lectures once the Federal Government orders for its reopening.
The institute which was established in 1977 during the period of former President Olusegun Obasanjo as military Head of State has continued to turnout professional technicians who have made their mark in their various field of endeavours.
It was in partnership with the German government to train Nigerians for steel development of the country.
Though the institute succeeded in turning out well equipped personnel who have continued to raise their heads high in their various endeavours due to the calibre of training received from the institute ,graduates of the school are found in the industrial sector of the nation’s economy such as oil firms, constructing and manufacturing companies, including steel fabricating and industries.
The Director of the Institute, Pastor Bode Fakuade who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the Institute, Comrade Precious Ugochukwu Owoh in an interaction at the institute yesterday said that Covid-19 protocols for the return of students back to lectures were now in place as the staff and management of the school have been mandated to observe necessary procedure while awaiting the return of students back to classes.
Pastor Fakuade noted that practicals constitute 70% of the studies while 30% goes to theory. He, however, regretted that despite the school having graduated enough man- power with adequate skills to man the nation’s steel industry most of the steel companies were now moribund. He, however, commended the present administration of Mohammadu Buhari for his efforts to reactivate Ajaokuta Steel Industry for the industrial development of the country.
