Mrs Victoria Mbakwe, the wife of former Governor of Imo State, Dr Sam Mbakwe has lamented that past and present Governors in the old Imo State have abandoned her and her family, despite the achievements of her late husband, as former Governor.
Mrs Mbakwe stated this at Avutu, Obowo country home of the late Dee Sam Mbakwe, while playing host to Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti who paid her a visit at Avutu. She noted that Governor Alex Otti is the first Governor to come to her home to know how she was doing, lamenting that other past and present Governors did not care if she lived or not.
The widow of the former Imo State Governor praised Otti for his achievements so far in a few months of his administration, urging the Abia Governor to always inspect every project he is executing, saying that the strategy would enable him to have first hand knowledge of the contractors’ performances.
Earlier in his speech, Governor Alex Otti thanked God for preserving the life of Mrs Victoria Mbakwe and prayed God to maintain good health for her. He described the late Dee Sam Mbakwe as his role model, acknowledging that the former Governor of the old Imo State distinguished himself in leadership by building quality infrastructure , most of which have survived the taste of time.
Otti further promised to keep in touch with the Mbakwe family while praising Alex Mbakwe, the first son of the late Sam Mbakwe for the reception accorded him and officials of the Abia State government.
Otti later presented food items from his wife, Priscilla to Mbakwe widow. Some indigenes of Obowo who witnessed the event advised Governor Hope Uzodinma and former Governors of Imo, Abia and Ebonyi States to emulate the gesture.
